Becoming a Freemason

If you are interested in becoming a Freemason, it is actually quite straight forward, however, there are several mandatory requirements which need to be met.  One qualification is that you must believe in a supreme being.  A candidate be at least 18 years of age.

After reading through the information on this site, if you are interested in becoming a Freemason, we suggest that you first talk to a family member, friend or colleague whom you already know to be a member. They will be able to offer a further explanation to you about Freemasonry and help you take the first steps to find a suitable Lodge.

Should that not be possible, convenient or you would like to join Prudence Lodge in particular, then please contact our Membership officer and he will be happy to assist you.

Costs

As a rough guide the cost of joining a Lodge is £300. The provides not only membership to your own Lodge but the ability to visit any Lodge under or recognised by the United Grand Lodge of England.  Annual Lodge subscription is £130 and dining is £22 per meeting. A a rule of thumb each meeting will cost approximately £40.

The United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) has produced a booklet entitled “Discover Fresmasonry” explaining many aspects of Freemasonry. It gives information about membership, the principles of Freemasonry, its development in England, some famous Freemasons, the officers of a Lodge, dress code and the standard layout of a Lodge meeting room.
